Today was a big day for us; both Zachary and Kaitlyn had their check –ups. It was Zachary’s 3 year check-up and Kaitlyn’s 9 month check-up. Hard for me to grasp that they both are growing so fast.
Zachary now weighs in at 32 ½ pounds and is 38 ½ inches tall. He gained 5 pounds and grew 4 inches in a year. A year ago, Zachary had just started his early start program through the Regional Center which I thought would stop since services with Regional stop at age 3, but the school principal has said they would love for him to stay for just a small fee. I was very excited as he does love going to school and always talks about his friends Jack and Katie.
I took some time to look back at Zachary’s second birthday and was so amazed at his development in this past year. Somewhere along the way, I lost my little baby and now I look upon my beautiful boy racing through life. Zachary is now talking non-stop and he is always amazing me at his vocabulary. A year ago, he said only 15 words and now he can come up with some amazing sentences. I have to remind myself of this when I am about to tell him to stop talking and be quiet for just a minute. How a year can change things!!! I have been working on the Alphabet with him, and he soon mastered it short order. Numbers are of less interest to him, but he is slowing recognizing them instead of trying to make them into letters. I’m really looking forward to this coming year to watch him grow and change even more. I just love each day with him to see his personality bloom.
Kaitlyn has now made it to the ripe old age of 9 months. She is now 17 pounds 7 ounces and 28 ½ inches tall. She gained 4 ounces and ½ inch in 3 months. The doctor says she is underweight but other wise, doing great. She is about 3 pounds lighter than what Zachary was at the same age, but she is in constant motion these days, so I’m not really too worried.
I have had Kaitlyn in an infant study at UCI since she was a month old. It has been interesting to see what tests they do on infants to gage their development. This month was our last time going as they had to close the study. They provided me with all the test results and said she is testing up to 12 months in most areas of development. It has been a fun experience and also reassuring.
Kaitlyn is a busy girl and loves to explore her environment, especially if it is outside. I will always find her outside if the door is left open. She is keeping Zachary on his toes these days since she just loves his toys better than her own. I guess a toy truck can be quite tasty. She loves to eat and feed herself. I am having a hard time these days convincing her to let me feed her baby food. Her favorite food these days is butternut squash.
